Prominent film producer Pritish Nandy died on Wednesday after a cardiac arrest at his South Mumbai residence, at the age of 73.
Pritish Nandy was the producer of several successful movies like Jhankaar Beats, Chameli, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, Ankahee, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Bow Barracks Forever, among many others.
On Wednesday, his friend, veteran actor Anupam Kher shared this devastating news on his Instagram along with a long heartfelt post.
The actor wrote, “Deeply deeply saddened and shocked to know about the demise of one of my dearest and closest friends #PritishNandy!”
Calling him “brave”, the Uunchai actor also recalled how Mr. Nandy had been there for him in his earliest days in the city.
“Amazing poet, writer, filmmaker and a brave and unique editor/journalist! He was my support system and a great source of strength in my initial days in Mumbai. We shared lots of things in common. He was also one of the most fearless people I had come across. Always Larger than life.”
“I learnt so many things from him. Off-late we didn’t meet much. But there was a time when we were inseparable! I will never forget when he surprised me by putting me on the cover of Filmfare and more importantly #TheIllustratedWeelky,” the post continued.
Calling him a friend’s friend, the post concluded with, “He was the true definition of yaaron ka yaar! I will miss you and our times together my friend. Rest well. #HeartBroken.”

Born on January 15, 1951, in Bhagalpur, Bihar, Pritish Nandy was also a journalist and a famous media personality. In the 1990s, he hosted a talk show on Doordarshan called The Pritish Nandy Show.
He also served as a member of Rajya Sabha from 1998 to 2004, representing the Shiv Sena party.
